What to expect from iOS7

W

With only days left until the start of this year’s WWDC on June 10, everybody’s speculating about the new developments in iOS and waiting for the iOS 7 preview. So, will iOS 7 be a hit or a miss? Let’s have a look at what we already know about the new operating system and discuss what we’d like to see in it (dear Apple, we are asking nicely).

iOS 7 Release Date

We usually expect major iOS updates around September – October. Well, even though it’s only rumours at this stage, but we’ve heard that this release might be a bit late because it’s running behind schedule. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long. In any case, we should know the exact release date soon enough because it should be revealed at WWCD.

iOS 7 Design

Everybody is expecting iOS7 to undergo a design overhaul. The WWCD preview should show our hungry eyes how the new operating system will look. There is talk that the lock screen will be completely redone and it won’t have the lock we all got used to. It may feature a completely back screen instead and have improved gesture controls. As for the whole iOS 7 design, we are expecting it to be simpler and more minimalist.

iOS 7 Improvements

Strictly speaking, we don’t really know what improvements will be made to iOS 7. But there are some we’d really like to see. Hopefully, Apple has the same things in mind:

Siri improvements – we’d love to have Siri use more voices. Right now it has a super boring voice here in the UK and a very robotic one in the US.
A better lock screen – looks like Apple is working on it. What we’d like to see is a bit more functionality. For example, it would be nice to be able to control your music player when you’re listening to music on the go without having to unlock the screen.
More independence from iTunes – it would be nice to be able to choose whether you want to use iTunes for your music or not. Same goes for iPhoto.

We’re looking forward to the iOS 7 preview and hope that it will be the best iOS yet.
